Rushmore Chapter of ABATE
|
The Rushmore Chapter of ABATE of South Dakota is based in Rapid
City, SD. We are in the heart of the Black Hills. Rushmore Chapter
of Abate was founded in the October-November time frame of 1982.
The first meeting was held at Shakee’s Pizza in Rapid City SD with
the following Charter Members in attendance: Bob Reilly, Edie
Neilson, Dean Hade, Pat O’Gorman, Bob Lenz, Leo Sogge, Ted
Delarco, Mark Gardener, Gerry Gauthier, Marilyn Blume, Steve
Marsh, Rick Roth and J.J. Holmquist. This group of members was
responsible for laying the groundwork for our on going vigil to
maintain freedom of the road. Our battle cry for the past twenty
years has been, let those who ride decide. Rushmore ABATE has
been involved in various civic activities. To mention a few, we were
instrumental in starting what would eventually become known as
“Black Hills Area Bikers Toy Run”. The toy run has evolved into
purchasing gifts for the forgotten elderly in the Black Hills area. Last
fall our Chapter was involved in the September 11th Bikers Blood
Drive. It is our goal, as well as that of other motorcycle groups to
make this an annual event to commemorate the tragedy that
occurred to our nation. Anyone wishing to join Rushmore Chapter of
ABATE should plan on attending the general membership meeting
held the 1st Sunday of every month (if holiday than the following
Sunday) at noon at the American Legion, Post 311 in Piedmont,
South Dakota. Rushmore ABATE is a non-profit organization. We
welcome all motorcyclists to join us in our effort to maintain our rights
for freedom of choice.
